Target has submitted plans to build a new 129,490-square-foot store at 4000 N. Shepherd Dr., the former site of the historic Sears department store that served north Houston for more than 70 years before closing in 2020.

The 129,490-square-foot Target is planned for 4000 North Shepherd Drive in Garden Oaks, according to the filing. The new $19.1 million store is expected to break ground in April 2026 and be completed in March 2027, the filing said.

Target shoppers will be able to visit their local store for some last-minute shopping on Labor Day because all of its stores will be open. Most Target stores will be open during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. However, hours may vary so it’s best to confirm with your local Target.
